Ek Villain
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...a stylish, spellbinding and terrifying edge-of-the-seat thriller.
-
You cannot fault the scale of Ek Villain or berate its lead star cast. But you wish you could celebrate this thriller like you did Suri's last movie outing Aashiqui 2. This one lacks soul.
-
A gritty, engaging thriller.
-
...a decent watch but it could have been much better!
-
It is a film that will leave you shocked, shaken and moved.
-
Watch Ek Villain for an amazing performance by Riteish Deshmukh, the music (which is already a hit) and a well-knit plot.
-
A well-made potboiler that loses points for being the result of unabashed plagiarism.
-
...a classic example of a film that takes itself so seriously that it ends up looking manipulative and largely lacking in genuine emotions and soul.
-
...could have been a far superior product. What it becomes is a lackluster thriller.
-
It's a shame then that despite the uniformly impressive performances, and Suri's nifty directing skills, the film is only moderately fulfilling.
-
Apart from a more consistent pace, Ek Villain also needed more detailing and more depth in its characterisation.
-
The story has its moments and tries to give some interesting twists but isn't compelling enough to give you the thrills you were so desperately hoping for thanks to its lifeless leads.
-
...an ugly ode to misogyny. On the other hand, it is an opportunity wasted for a spectacularly violent film free of middle-class dross.
-
Watch the film for Riteish and Riteish alone just to see how effortlessly he slips out of his farcical ‘Humshakals’ pinafore into the heinous hood of ‘Ek Villain’.
-
The biggest of the villains in Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain is the screenplay itself. It is as muddled as a serial killer’s twisted mind and just as destructive.
-
Suri is an innate story-teller, and can keep things moving. All he needs is a strong, all-the-way credible, original plot.
-
A revenge saga that works so hard in trying to make you feel for the characters that it fails and you are left gaping at the screen in bewilderment for over two hours.
-
The other issue is Suri’s unwillingness to come out of Mahesh Bhatt’s shadow because his films derive most of their heft from the maker’s oeuvre.
-
There is no doubting that Suri's vision is clear in its own space-evident from the usual heady cocktail of lilting tunes and brooding antagonists - but his storytelling leaves much to be desired.
-
This film is a badly written melodrama with misogynist undercurrents.
-
A clumsy mess of a narrative loop—stories within stories and backstories within backstories, all leading nowhere.
-
Why, again, is this a remake? Why would these filmmakers steal from a film and yet leave out the good parts, the bits that made those films great? And why do we do it over and over again?
-
This contrived battle of psychopaths is going to test your patience.
-
What you get is a well-planned scene sequence with a sharp storyline.... But only in the director's mind. On screen, he executes a mess.
-
Watch if it a film that’s essentially unoriginal, with plasticky emotions, and unnecessary gore fills up your soul.
