Love Sex Aur Dhokha
Critic reviews and ratings
-
Dibakar Banerjee has taken that much-nudged envelope, ripped it apart, and mailed out a magnificently tawdry postcard. He's made a film which lets Hindi cinema sit back, take a deep glug of adulthood, and wipe Haywards 5000 foam from its 'stache as it leers at the girl in stockings. Bollywood has just grown up the only way it could...
-
...has all the makings of a contemporary cult classic this season's best film.
-
...original, innovative and ground-breaking cinema, which will shock and provoke you. The film is definitely not for the faint-hearted or those who swear by stereotypical fares, but for those who yearn for a change.
-
...shouldn’t be restricted with tags like experimental, offbeat, path-breaking, low-budget or multiplex cinema. While it happens to be all of these, it goes beyond with its smart story and superlative storytelling to be a brilliant and entertaining film.
-
Each of the three stories has a newspaper story item quality about it and thus is as enchanting as that can get. But the novel way in which it is recorded and narrated is engrossing. But, be warned it is not your movie if you are the kind who takes offense easily or can't handle non-escapist cinema.
-
It's partly hilarious, mostly sad, yes quite misogynistic but also very unusual.
-
...is a breakthrough film : the portrayal of love and sex in Hindi cinema may never be the same again.
-
You will be shocked, you will be startled, but walking out of the theatre, you know you have just seen what is possibly the most important Hindi film since Satya and Dil Chahta Hai.
-
...could become a seminal work in Indian cinema history.
-
It's dark, distressing and deeply disturbing. But it's also the reality of the times we are living in.
-
Don't expect time-pass entertainment. Think beyond run-of-the-mill and see how Ekta Kapoor re-invents herself as the producer of contemporary Indian cinema's first full-blown experimental film.
-
Unflinching and unapologetic, Love Sex Aur Dhoka has an unsettling, off-the-rails quality that gives it a razor sharp edge.
-
...the film is a worthy experiment created by one of Bollywood’s most imaginative and original directors. Let me warn you that it is a polarizing film. You’re going to either love it or you’re going to hate it.
-
...a film comprising elements its title aptly pronounces. Savour these stories told in a distinct edgy, kitschy style. Don’t miss...
-
...is not a film about celebrating the end of an individual’s right to privacy. It’s a rigorously recorded pseudo-documentary about people who have thrown all caution and discretion to the winds because they’ve no choice.
-
...is remarkable in the way it experiments with the digicam to create a novel, audacious narrative.
-
It’s a sort of flick you ideally discover without burdens of expectation: a caveat you must bear in mind, in case you were planning on rushing off to cinemas right away. Where any Bollywood movie without a gyrating, lip-synching hero perceives itself as ‘different’, this one, from an audience’s point of view, is truly an experiment.
-
...has one factor which completely works for it - its genre which is unconventional, unprecedented and unheard of.
-
...is a path breaking flick for bollywood. The film disturbs, repels and shocks the audiences.
-
...is the ‘cool’ film youngsters would enjoy, and its realness will strike a chord with a few. The more discerning audience may be left disappointed. But it is film you can’t ignore.
-
Dibakar Banerjee has delivered a third interesting and watchable film in a row.
-
...will shock you at points, but the shock value, at least in the uncensored version, will fade away.
-
Dibakar Banerjee pulls off a courageous experiment, even if that’s not quite the same as a satisfying movie experience.
