Nakkash
Critic reviews and ratings
-
In terms of narrative style, Imam swings between naturalism and an occasionally operatic tone, which suits Nakkash well. The plot is not designed as a thriller meant to dazzle us with its twists and turns. It is instead a believable slice-of-life saga in a toxic setting.
-
...only skims the surface of a complex theme. Instead of raining hammer blows on politics that is driven by discord and distrust, it manages to inflict only a few pin pricks on its target. Be that as it may, any film that has its heart in the right place - Nakkash does - merits commendation.
-
The premise and the plot of the film keep you hooked. But it is the jagged screenplay, which is a minor issue, at times could be a stumbling block for a seamless viewing experience.
-
...this drama on social issues ticks all the boxes of a progressive and offbeat movie, and despite its inconsiderable flaws, one should give this ‘art film’ a try!
-
...is a well-intentioned film that does not overstate its bravery, but suffers on account of length and lack of dramatic drive.
-
Better attention to detail and better writing would have turned Nakkash into a powerful vehicle propagating Hindu-Muslim unity -- something that’s much needed in these troubled times. Instead, you’re left with a sense of what could have been as you come out of the theatre...
-
...the makers barely manage to go beyond the compelling premise and its inevitable conclusion can be predicted just minutes into the film.
-
Where the film falters is in ratcheting up the drama...
-
Imam doesn’t have enough layers to weave around a threadbare plot, and the double life that Alla Rakha leads, which is the most interesting aspect of the story, gets drowned by the melodrama.
