Shaitan
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...is bound to raise eyebrows thanks to its contemporary, thrilling, hard-hitting and forceful content. One of the most ingenious and entertaining thrillers I've seen in a long time. Also, it's one of the most stimulating and intense films to come out of the Hindi film industry.
-
...a spellbinding thriller with 'awesomeness' written all over it.
-
...is a unique experience to be savoured if you're looking for an adventure. In other words—don't miss!
-
Brilliantly written with some of the brightest young stars of Bollywood.
-
...a near-perfect film and an absolute must-watch. It is cool, bold, whacky, and contemporary without being wannabe. One of the finest films of the year will blow your mind and you might want to watch it again to let it all sink in.
-
...a disturbing yet delectable film.
-
...is blatant, unabashed and impishly pleasing. A must watch for its devilish excellence and cinematic brilliant.
-
Watch Shaitan for its original story, brilliant talent showcase by the cast, sound and editing teams. It might be the one of the most technically sound film you will have seen in a long time.
-
...intelligent, stimulating and entertaining.
-
...is the kind of film that actually gives you no option, while taking you along with it on a merry ride, making you feel the fear, anxieties and excitement of each of the characters involved.
-
For its visual style, sheer energy, and the trip that it is, Shaitan is recommended viewing.
-
Slowly but surely Shaitan loses steam, becomes repetitive and ends in a whimper. Which is a shame because Nambiar has talent to burn.
-
It isn't as daring as Anurag Kashyap's debut 'Paanch' whose themes it clearly mirrors, but it's got many moments that'll surprise you.
-
The outcome may be partly pretentious; it's largely satisfying still.
-
Debutant Bejoy Nambiar, working with a plot that has traces of Anurag Kashyap's unreleased film Paanch, directs this thriller with a deftness of touch.
-
...decent first time effort. But it leaves you a little wistful. We keep wishing that films like these will finally overcome the boundaries of commerce and mediocrity and we are probably just there, metres from the finishing line.
-
If it weren't for the brilliant performances, Shaitan would look like it's Director, Bejoy nambiar and producer, Anurag Kashyap's urge to sew plainly written scenes with quirky treatments.
-
...is a mixed bag of a movie, starting off with a bang, and then petering out, not getting where it sets out to go.
-
Can't say the film is enjoyable, but it is watchable in it's own morbid way.
-
In the end, it's all flash. This Shaitan is more SprayTan than Satan, staring us down and daring us to look away. Who blinks first? We do. Several times over.
