Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi
Critic reviews and ratings

This film takes the ideas of the original and it adds a zany new twist to the proceedings. The goofball humour gets a little over-the-top at times, but that’s exactly what works for this madcap comedy.
-
...is a mad cracker of a fun, powered by brilliant performance, good humour and friendly (healthy) digs on our dushman nations.
-
The film has a cracking first half which just zooms by. The second half lags a bit but only because the director is trying to tie all the strands together. But overall, the impact doesn't waver and that's what counts in the long run...
-
...a simple entertainer with some funny dialogue.
-
Despite the loose ends, it manages to make audiences laugh thanks to its funny dialogues and situations, clean humour and bravura performances.
-
The writing is superb and you will end up enjoying yourself immensely.
-
Without novelty or sense, the gag's already on thin ground and relies entirely on the loony camaraderie of its ensemble cast to work, which it does but only sporadically.
-
An issue with this one is that it sets up elaborate gags or even scenes which would be hilarious if fleshed out but then, there’s very little writing to fall back on.
-
A few good laughs but downs the rest with slapstick humor.
-
...is not without flaws, but they are overshadowed by the absence of references to farts, poop and animal backsides, homophobia, misogyny and other ugly biases that have repeatedly reared their heads in the kind of comedies Sinha herself has been a part of over the years.
-
...has a funny first half but pales and drags in the second. Sure the comedy is over the top and silly but if that is your cup of tea then a moderate entertainment for couple of hours is guaranteed.
-
The sequel has an even more ridiculous plot, a tedious heroine and — this is the crucial bit — not enough gags. It runs out of steam long before the finish line.
-
...runs on such a flimsy premise that its end destination carries no purpose whatsoever.
-
...isn’t a total bust: there are intermittent laughs, and the Indian and Pakistani characters are treated with generosity. But to set a film in China and then spend 135 minutes sneering at the Chinese is, to put it plainly, opportunistic and childish.
-
If you have a taste for such supreme silliness (honest confession, at times my balmy head certainly does) then you’ll be be smiling, if not laughing out loud. The problem is the lack of consistency, with the sharp lines and quick wit often lapsing into the puerile.
-
Instead of coherent plotting we get a sense the filmmakers decided to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.
-
The film has a few watchable moments, courtesy the deadpan delivery style of Jimmy Sheirgill, and an Urdu spouting Pakistani character (Piyush Mishra), a relic from the first film. But as a sequel, it is disappointing.
-
...is a classic example of a film that was made for the wrong reasons. It banks on a half-baked ridiculous plot that plays on regionalism without wit or spark. It's particularly a shame, because the prequel was charming and delightful.
-
The frenetically paced plot makes even less sense the second time round, and the humour is more scattershot and even desperate in places.
-
...the hilarity quotient is low. The precursor had delivered on at least a part of the promise inherent in the quirky premise. This one goes through the motions without ever coming close to finding a genuine rhythm.
-
The sequel tries for the same mix of muddled-headed but large-hearted Punjabis, crooked Chinese, a song or two, and a series of sequences which are meant to be funny but are most flat and dull.
-
The first film was a promise that good comedy is probably returning to Bollywood after decades. Then it regressed to a place of discomfiting familiarity. Not even a 90s earworm and Jimmy Shergill can save it.
