Gabbar Is Back
Critic reviews and ratings
-
Now, Gabbar Is Back - and you'll feel his return rocks.
-
If you are sick and tired of corruption in India, then, you shall find Gabbar Is Back inspiring, else you may find it boring and preachy.
-
This one is a mass entertainer!
-
...a full on ‘masala’ film with a lot of applause worthy scenes.
-
...meant strictly for the masala-of-yore fans
-
One of those films that delivers exactly what you expect only to leave you in a more “meh” mode than you started out with.
-
Watch it if you want to re-see Akshay Kumar's superhuman antics, which he's pretty much mastered by now - Rowdy Rathore, Boss, Khiladi 786, ad nauseam, ad infinitum.
-
The only saving grace of this film is Akshay Kumar, who not only looks dishy with a beard, but does try giving a convincing performance in this not at all convincing film. But then he should have chosen better.
-
This is a low-brow, gimmicky film that capitalizes on one of Hindi film's most iconic villains, and more unforgivably, on the aam junta's frustrations with the system.
-
Akshay Kumar tries his hardest to salvage this train wreck, sadly to no avail.
-
...can Bollywood please, please stop making these tired, tiresome remakes? And let sleeping Gabbars lie?
-
Clearly, nobody put the makers of this film through the paces. They might have then known how to make the best of their limited cinematic resources and craft something less mucky.
-
Stay away from theatres, I’d say. 50-kos away, even.
-
...all you come out remembering are some corny one-liners, a brand war and the over-the-top treatment of everything else.
-
...by the time the same plot is passed through four commercial factory machines, nothing is decipherable. Gabbar is the end of it hopefully, with nothing left to squeeze out.
-
Given the changing desi palette, these Bollywood super-star, super hero stuff really seem so much like regional language potboilers in comparison.
-
From the clumsy plotting and a manipulative back-story featuring a visibly disinterested Kareena Kapoor, to the been-there-seen-that action scenes and the uninspired score, there's little to recommend in this movie.
-
...a hectic, loud film that skids from one episode to another introducing characters — all prefabricated, one-dimensional ones necessary for simulating a vigilante melodrama — and pushing the story to its inevitable end.
-
The title Gabbar Is Back merely indicates the return of the bogeyman, not the return of the glorious masala cinema of his era.
-
...is designed as a star vehicle for Kumar’s limited acting skills but considerable fighting prowess.
-
...laughably bad movie.
-
It has come at a time when the remake business has touched a plateau. Had it come in its infancy, Gabbar would not have sounded like babble.
-
Who green-lights rubbish like this?
-
...filming gimmicks and juvenile humour upstage logical writing and character development. The end result is a lackluster and utterly pointless film trying too hard to impress.
-
You need better writing and overall packaging to pull off unapologetic nonsense. GIB falls flat on its face.
