Kurbaan
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...captivating plot, gripping screenplay, super performances and a climax that shakes you up completely. Watching this movie should be on top of your agenda this week.
-
...critically important work because it spells out uncomfortable truths in a cinematic language that’s riveting and resonant without resorting to extravagant flourishes and fireworks.
-
...serious, thrilling and balanced film that you must watch.
-
It's mostly a gripping thriller with several shock moments. Give it a shot.
-
...convincing and compelling...
-
Go watch Kurbaan, explore it, find your own points to agree, disagree, endorse, enjoy, debate and be angry about. Either way, you definitely cannot walk out without the film leaving an impression on you. And a strong one at that.
-
...does strike a chord and sets you thinking on stuff that needs to be sorted out before the new world order – a more humanitarian, less violent – sets in. Don’t miss it.
-
...raises thorny questions, and prepares us for tough answers. It is an important, relevant film.
-
...worth the price of your ticket for the thrill it provides and for the performances and direction.
-
...the lack of usual masala associated with Karan Johar’s films and a serious topic like terrorism may make the flick more favorite with intelligentsia than with the hoi polloi, who go to theatres for paisa vasool experience.
-
...compelling thriller that doesn't shy away from touching prickly issues.
-
Packed with powerful performances, it’s a must- watch for its technical brilliance and captivating storyline.
-
Despite a difficult subject that deals with terrorism and Islam, the director gets the tone and pitch of the film just right...
-
A tighter script and edit, less dubious politics and stronger characters could have made this a great thriller.
-
Clearly Rensil is a talent to watch. He isn’t afraid to take risks but his ambition and good intentions aren’t matched by the sophistication that this project required.
-
...if you can forgive the director’s `filmy’ take on terrorism and can enjoy the thrilling moments and superb performances nevertheless.
-
Nothing adds up but for the hyped romance between Saif and Kareena. Both are in terrific form.
-
Predictable to the minutest detail and utterly-butterly s..l..o..w. You sure have better ways to induce yawns now, don't you?
-
My problem with Kurbaan is not just that it covers ground similar to New York... My problem is also not just that it makes terrorism look ridiculously simple... My problem is movies that have decided to make a market of this. There's a formula at work here.
-
What you may brave through then is a flick neither real or serious enough to be a meditation on global terror, nor sweetly suspended and adequately brain-dead to be Die Hard. It’s hard to be both. The hardship shows.
-
Yet another story about yet another terrorist. The hardware is there, but where’s the heart?
-
Clearly the motive for such movies is sheer profit. Who cares about responsible cinema? Certainly not Johar who plays with faith and terrorism as if they were toys, absolutely designer.
