Pyaar Ka Punchnama
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...has a single-point plan of engaging and amusing the spectators by telling a story which is unusual, yet relevant. It's radiantly good cinema that needs to be lauded and encouraged.
-
...stands up for the MCPs...in vain.
-
...most guys between 18-40 are going to identify with PKP at some level and love it. On the other hand most girls will strive to delude themselves that they are nothing like any of the characters.
-
Urban angst and the ever-changing rules of the battle of the sexes could make for a much better film, but seen without any expectations, this one does deliver a few solid punches.
-
...has a little of everything for everyone.
-
The film had promise and does have a few funny sequences. But by and large, it's a case of promises unfulfilled.
-
She's a user, he's a loser. In each of the three couples. Thank goodness for some decent lines and situations that make it a decent date film.
-
...good fare.
-
...while it lasts, you can laugh your head off most of the time. Not a bad reason to see a film.
-
The film appears to be a personal let out of sorts against women. The film provides a complete one sided take on relationships and is exceedingly slow.
-
...is inconsistent and lacks 'punch'.
-
The plot is inert and the dialogue, vacuous. The film feels like it's in slow-motion. Nothing much happens for a very long time.
-
If it were crisper, with more thought put into its script, situations and dialogue, Pyaar Ka Punchnama would have made the cut.
-
The screenplay, an excellent effort at genuine Indian dick-lit writing, still rings true, in several parts. The solid material isn't however contained enough to make for a tight film.
-
Pyaar Ka Punchnama's anti-rom-com premise had promise. Had it been crisper and smarter, the film could have made the cut. Sadly, nothing of that sort happens.
-
Director and writer Luv Ranjan seems to have a string of bad breakups. Only that can explain why the villains in his debut movie are the girlfriends – who are difficult, demanding, unfathomable and annoying.
-
The first half is quite a laugh riot, but the narrative gets too scattered in the second.
-
Shallow, stilted take on relationships.
-
...is positioned as a comic take on real urban relationships, but the jokes are mostly lame, and the conflicts so exaggerated that it doesn't work on any level.
