Critic reviews and ratings

  • ...a full on entertainer with three aces - Salman Khan like never before, stylish action and super music.

  • This is one Zandu Balm of a movie.

  • ...designed as a vehicle to showcase the star charisma of Salman Khan and the actor literally hits bull's eye. He has a ball on screen and makes sure you join the party too.

    79

    Critic rating (?)

  • Though the story is a pure mishmash right out of the potboiler films of the 70s, it's styled and spoken with today's hip attitude. Dabangg is chavanni chhap entertainment, easy to ridicule but toughest to create.

  • ...is for those who love masala in their films. And Salman Khan.

    69

    Critic rating (?)

  • Two films for the price of one - an entertaining, star-centric potboiler, plus a delicately textured relationship drama.

    69

    Critic rating (?)

  • The movie belongs to Salman Khan all the way. In fact, it is he who carries the flick on his shoulders through his star power.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • Dabangg continues to belong to Salman, the last standing action hero of our times, who may not know to dance, sing or (if I may daresay) act but sure as hell knows how to pack a punch and entertain the crowd like no one else can ever dream of doing.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • Try to find a novel storyline and there is none in Dabangg. Try to find Salman Khan and there is nothing else.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • There are too many songs and too, too much fighting, which becomes more gory and gratuitous as the film unfolds. Dabangg feels longer than it is and way more exhausting than it should. Still I recommend that you see the film for the sheer pleasure of watching Salman Khan in top form.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • It'd be a shame to watch this anywhere outside of an old, decrepit single screen theatre, in the spirit of the loud tribal tradition that Hindi movies have always been: severely light on both the brains and the wallet. Mad stuff! Really.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...is not a movie for intellectuals. Leave your brains, knowledge of physics , and hoity-toity attitude behind while watching the film. Do not look for logic. Then you can enjoy the shamelessly funny and indulgent movie.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...rides totally on Salman Khan's magic.Had director Abhinav Kashyap cast a less popular actor, it’s doubtful the film would have the chutzpah that Khan has lent to it.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...an evolved version of Wanted. The hero is not all-pervasive. He can beat up a roomful of baddies but also shed a tear over his estranged family. These nuances are appreciable, but the film lacks the pace and drama of a full-blown entertainer.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...essentially a formula film and the script could've done with some more highs.

    59

    Critic rating (?)

  • Is Dabangg a good film? Not by a long shot. Is it an enjoyable film? Maybe. But there's no arguing with the box-office and a star's fan following.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • Watch it only if you are an ardent Salman Khan fan. It's his character that works, not the film.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • Kashyap fails to keep the pitch consistent, and the dips become more clichéd and pronounced as the film progresses. Dabangg could have been the retro dhamaka of the year; I enjoyed only some of it.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...this is a Salman Khan vehicle all the way. He gets to be funny, wicked and belligerent...sometimes all at once.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • An ordinary, at best average film, Dabangg can barely contain the presence of its larger-than-life star.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...has some smart writing, many riveting action sequences and quite a few yawn-inducing moments.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • Limited ambition. It could have been a memorable entertainer but is happy being a one-time watch.

    49

    Critic rating (?)

  • Fearless mix of masalas.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • ...even in the name of a mindless, 'paisa vasool' entertainer (!?), first-time director Abhinav Singh Kashyap's Dabangg just doesn't give you sufficient bang for your bucks.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • Unlike a typical Salman Khan movie, this has got a plot, a well-behaved hero, and even a script.

    39

    Critic rating (?)

  • The film held the promise of churning the masalas to the core but stops well short of it. The real film itself has little more to offer than its own trailer.
