Gangs Of Wasseypur 2
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...can only be seen as a smarter, better crafted extension of GOW rather than a sequel.
-
...an Anurag Kashyap show all through and without an iota of doubt, can easily be listed as one amongst his paramount works. An engaging movie with several bravura moments.
-
...it's revenge on a platter - served cold (heartedly) and definitely worth a 'second' helping.
-
...fast-paced, exhilarating blood fest.
-
The sequel gets to the point infinitely quicker than Gangs Of Wasseypur did – it is free from the information overload that weighed down the initial 30 minutes of the first part.
-
Rarely, if ever, as in this epic, has Hindi cinema transported you to a world that is real and surreal at the same time.
-
...sustains interest with its lively pace, packed action, and brilliant repartee.
-
...does go yawn and yawn towards it concluding section. Never mind. It has more spine and sinew than anything else seen in recent months. Make that years.
-
...is first-rate, crowd-pleasing, unadulterated entertainment that comes without the disclaimer to leave one’s brains home.
-
Like one of those unending strings of ladis, this is, then, a proper firecracker, even if far too long.
-
If Wasseypur II has one fatal flaw, it’s the indulgence of its director, so in love with his baby that he doesn’t stop introducing pointless subplots and characters until the very end.
-
...is a follow-through that is shot through with flashes of brilliance, and some wonderful comic verve, but that doesn’t have the enthralling power and spread of the first film.
-
If you can forgive the indulgent and repetitive portions, you'll enjoy this one.
-
The movie is as much heartless fun as the first, but it will also hopefully be the last word in the romanticisation of mofussil chic that has come to characterise a section of Hindi cinema.
-
Works on its ironic, cynical, wry path. But the minute emotions slip in, it flattens and turns filmi.
-
...disappointingly dull...
-
Like Part I, Gangs of Wasseypur II works on a scene-by-scene level rather than as a cohesive whole.
-
You might wish it had a deeper emotional core or some meaning but Kashyap just wants to leave his fingerprints over every frame without judging who’s right and who’s wrong.
-
...has more gore than the first but less entertainment.
-
...instead of being more entertaining ends up disappointing you. It stretches its revenge saga way too much leaving you tired and restless.
-
Although, a raw powerful tale, the two parts could have been easily fused into a single single taut narrative. That would have been much more enjoyable.
-
...a blow-out. The violence soars spectacularly, but the story does not rise above the mundane. It is a smug, tiresome follow-up
-
...simply put is too long for its own cause and too bloody for most eyes.
-
'Definitely' does not have a 'Perpendicular' rise. It is off 'Tangent'!
