Joker
Critic reviews and ratings

This isn’t a movie you recommend in film schools. This is a parody you watch to test your sense of humour.
-
...is very intentionally silly and gets cute at times. It keeps things simple despite the seemingly complicated situation it gets itself into and it is clean.
-
...is a bit of this and a bit of that. We buy the story of Paglapur because the whole premise is so mental, so random. But when Joker turns around and does exactly what it has been mocking all this while, it stinks.
-
That it has not been promoted as a children's movie is confounding because surely the producers did not mean for it to be seen and enjoyed by thinking adults.
-
...a 'vegetarian' family dish that overloads the cheesy corn without adding common sense. Watch if you can digest well.
-
It has a reasonable albeit fanciful concept, a simplistic plot and some nice quirky moments. Tees Maar Khan was made for three-year-olds, Joker is made for eight-year-olds.
-
Madness, done with method, can be hilarious. Or, as in the case of Joker, it can be a royal bore.
-
All that you take home from Joker is a few stray laughs.
-
...there is stuff here that might have made for an engaging children’s film, had Kunder not fallen prey to that oldest mistake – of treating his audience like fools.
-
There isn't a single line in Shirish Kunder's Joker that actually works, leaving us with a film that, while commendably brisk in a 100-minute package, refuses to get going at all.
-
Shirish Kunder you definitely should redefine your notions of a comedy and as for your Joker, sadly this time around the Joke is on you!
-
What could have been a delightful, fantastical fable turns out to be a damp squib full of flat jokes.
-
On the whole, Joker is a joke of a film. Disaster!
-
...ridiculous film.
-
...tagged as India’s first extra-terrestrial comedy might just work with the aliens as for the humans it doesn’t quite do the trick!
-
Take Lagaan and Koi Mil Gaya, mix them, garnish with Tees Maar Khan and a handful of loud Priyadarshan comedies and voila!
-
Total fail.
-
...is a crude joke of a film that will leave you in tears unless you have a stomach strong enough to digest such unmitigated junk.
-
...is just exhausting. This time, the joke's on us.
-
What was Akshay Kumar thinking? What was anyone thinking? Were they, at all?
-
Kunder is a daring dreamer of big concepts, but he needs to be a better director to flesh them out with sustained energy. Otherwise a nonsense comedy becomes just… nonsense.
-
...the joke is really on the director and the writer.
-
As noble as the idea may have been, it required a filmmaker with more sensitivity and finesse.
-
The only sentiment I was left with at the end of the film was, “Joker ko cinema se nikaalkar taash ki gaddi pe daalo".
