Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Critic reviews and ratings
-
...a revitalizing take on romance and relationships.
-
An alive, fresh vibe dominates Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani invigorating you through it's entire run. The story is not novel, but the treatment is A-grade.
-
...the kind of film you wouldn’t mind watching despite the fact that there isn’t much in the film that is memorable. With a cast that will win your heart and music that’ll play on loop in your head for a while after, the film is fun but rarely much more.
-
...entertains in its 2-and-half hours of runtime. It has great music, super acting, awesome visuals and fair dialogue.
-
It feels like a slow dive into the depths of emotions, at times fulfilling and at times uncomfortable.
-
Let's just say if your expectations are in check, you won't be disappointed.
-
...despite a stereotypical story line, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani still scores for being a breezy joy ride especially for the performances and screenplay.
-
...for its entire cliched story still is a breezy one time watch.
-
Ayan Mukerji's second film is exactly the second film you would expect from director who made his debut with Wake Up Sid, driven by the pros and cons that come in the wake.
-
...fairly entertaining film never quite rises above its need to stick to the tried-and-tested.
-
If light-hearted mush is what you're seeking, you're looking in the right place.
-
...may not be in the league of Johar’s 'Kuchh Kucch Hota Hai' or Aditya Chopra’s 'DDLJ' - far from it - but it is a notch above the B-town fare showing at any of the ‘plexes today.
-
...a well written film that should be watched for its direction, treatment and some remarkable performances.
-
...has its highs and lows, but in the end it left me with a smile and a very wet handkerchief.
-
Director Ayan Mukherji, who gave an impressive account of himself in his debut film, Wake Up Sid, appears to have allowed the skills that he displayed the first time around to go into deep slumber.
-
While at heart this is a simple love story, Ayan fails to keep it at that. And this is where YJHD falls flat even though it had the fizz.
-
Runs on an unmistakable, foolproof formula: story is secondary; song, dance, costumes, and stars are supreme.
-
Ultimately, there is enough eye-candy in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to see you through, but I wish the film had more meat and less dressing.
-
...my experience of it was similar to what I felt with Wake Up Sid – plenty of beautifully thought-out moments, lots to like, but it should have been so much more. Mukerji has this tendency to pick up heavy subjects and treat them lightly, which can be frustrating at times.
-
An understated romance that takes ages to unfold but rich in detail.
-
...a good-looking film but lacks a good story.
-
...a been-here, seen-this, much-too-long glossy creature, and not much else.
-
Though beautifully picturised and entertaining enough, this film is old wine in a new bottle.
-
A film as rootless and rife with loose ends as the pretty people in it.
