Besharam
Critic reviews and ratings
-
While this is far from the best films of the year, if you shamelessly love Ranbir, go for it.
-
Doubtlessly, this actor loves the camera. And the camera loves him back. Because of that rare interaction, you come out of 'Besharam', feeling elated.
-
...tries bringing back funk to the Bollywood screen. It would have worked if Kashyap and company focussed on just that bit instead of compromising on the novelty factor for 100-crore basics.
-
...rambunctious and robust, does not offer much by way of narrative novelty. But like Dabangg, it sets a crackling pace and does not flinch from the prospect of going over the edge in its pursuit of cheap thrills.
-
This is Ranbir's experiment to see whether he can successfully do the films that Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar have knocked out of the park.
-
This film by Kashyap is more like a whimper that sometimes follows an explosion of a firecracker.
-
...a mixed bag of goods. It is very funny at the start but after a while the laughs come only in spurts.
-
...is devoid of rhythm, sur or taal. It's shot like an ongoing television sitcom where the actors are clueless about which way the intended laughter would take them.
-
...a huge disappointment!
-
The movie tries way too hard to step into the masala zone and only ends up being a 'wannabe' attempt.
-
...is so unbelievably sloppy and senseless, not even the best actors in the business can redeem it no matter how hard they try.
-
...a film that’s humourless, sexist, and riddled with what seems like innumerable songs.
-
...reeks of being a wannabe film. Safe to say it is nothing but Ranbir Kapoor ki Aag.
-
Besharam is not a film. It is Bollywood's brightest young star stooping to conquer, in search of the mass market.
-
Abhinav Singh Kashyap's nonchalant direction fails to deliver any highs.
-
It works to the extent that Kapoor is a star in the popular Hindi cinema mould and can command attention in the dreariest of moments, but even screen gods can’t convert water into wine.
-
Yet another of those insipid, loud, occasionally-crass films that go under the garb of masala entertainment.
-
Nothing works in the movie. Not even Ranbir is able to change the fortunes of this script that goes from bad to worse and then even worse.
-
...a seriously underwhelming film.
-
A major misfire in every way.
-
Sloppy, senseless, cynical.
-
An old-fashioned masala film that winks at the seventies and the eighties but ends up looking dated.
-
And the law of averages catches up with Ranbir Kapoor.
-
Remains unbearably unfunny from the first shot to the last—irritates and exasperates rather than bring out a chuckle.
-
...ends up looking like a big budget ‘home movie’ that an audience may be reluctant to take seriously as entertainment.
